Universita Degli Studi Di Bari Aldo Moro (UNIBA) — Italy

Introducing Università di Bari Aldo Moro (UNIBA)

TUniversità di Bari Aldo Moro (UNIBA) is one of the largest and most established universities in Southern Italy, with over a century of academic excellence and a strong commitment to internationalization, research, and societal impact. Serving approximately 60,000 students across its Bari, Brindisi, and Taranto campuses, UNIBA delivers high-level education and research through 24 departments, 2 schools, and 4 centres of excellence, spanning both the humanities and the sciences.

UNIBA has a long-standing engagement with European and international mobility frameworks and holds the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE) for the periods 2014–2020 and 2021–2027. Internationalization is a strategic and transversal priority at the university, reflected in its promotion of joint and double degree programs, international master’s courses, visiting professorships, and extensive student and staff mobility opportunities. Through Erasmus+ and global mobility initiatives, UNIBA actively supports global citizenship, gender inclusion in STEM, recognition of qualifications acquired abroad, and the social and academic integration of international students.

Research internationalization is a core strategic objective at UNIBA. The university is deeply engaged in European research networks, supports the international mobility of doctoral candidates and researchers, and actively disseminates research opportunities and outcomes. The Incoming Mobility Office plays a key role in supporting international researchers and manages Erasmus+ KA171 collaborations, including partnerships with institutions in Botswana, Nigeria, and Cameroon.

Within PAP2SN, UNIBA’s contribution is led by the Department of Earth and Geo-Environmental Sciences (DiSTeGeo), a dynamic research unit with more than 60 researchers and professors. DiSTeGeo’s expertise spans geological risk and hazards, Earth system dynamics, climate change, environmental impact, green and blue economy, and geo-heritage protection. The department has recently strengthened its capacity in planetary sciences and astrobiology, further aligning its research profile with PAP2SN objectives. DiSTeGeo offers undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs, including a PhD track in Earth Processes and Management of Resources and Risks for a Resilient Society, with specializations in sustainable development, climate change, polar sciences, and space science and technology.

As a technical partner in the PAP2SN consortium, UNIBA supports project coordination, communication, monitoring, and implementation; contributes to candidate selection and supervision processes; and facilitates knowledge transfer across the consortium. Through its strong research base, international networks, and mobility expertise, UNIBA strengthens the scientific quality, governance, and long-term sustainability of PAP2SN.
